Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Magic Mirror and why was it created?
Close

Thousands of years ago, The Hippogriff wished to create an object that could empower people to spread their knowledge and stories throughout the universe. And so he harvested the multi-dimensional metals from a far-out nebula and forged The Magic Mirror. While ordinary mirrors offer only a flat reflection of the present, The Magic Mirror’s infinite fractal composition bends space and time to reflect one’s past. In turn, those who gaze into its layered structure see a moment of their past and feats realized in the form of a precious Gem.

For centuries, Gems were distributed throughout the universe to spread knowledge. Communities thrived from stories and truths shared, and the universe entered a period of great peace and prosperity permeated with light.

But with light also comes dark.

So great were the Gems’ powers that holders were consumed by a paranoid fear. Under the guise of Gem protection, armies swelled in size, and inter-galactic borders became entrenched with conflict. Violence spread like a plague from one star system to the next.

As conflict saturated the universe, The Magic Mirror was overtaken by an internal noise that clouded its entire structure and forced its powers into a cold dormancy.  As dozens of armies closed in on the mirror’s location, The Hippogriff conjured a wormhole and escaped with The Magic Mirror in claw.

The Hippogriff had hoped The Magic Mirror would empower and lift all communities together. At this point in history that wasn’t the case. Would the world ever be ready for the Magic Mirror and its wondrous Gems? Midflight, The Hippogriff was struck by a comet and the Magic Mirror escaped its grasp and tumbled into the vast darkness of space.

Many centuries later, the unlikeliest of events came to pass. The great Medici family, patrons of fine art for centuries, discovered the Magic Mirror in a shooting star that passed by one of their villas.

As Cozomo wiped away layers of stardust, The Magic Mirror emitted a pulse of light that pierced the furthest corners of the universe.  “Ah,” he said, “this is a wonderful piece for my collection.”

Far away in the Yativerse, the Hippogriff sensed the Mirror’s energy and launched a search party. The Mirror was close, and he had never forgotten what it meant to him, and the wonderful Gems it could offer the world. A new era had finally come. The world was finally ready for the Magic Mirror, and its Gems.

Now, the Magic Mirror rises again with powers more fitting for this new era. No longer operating in the physical realm, The Magic Mirror now crafts Gems in the form of NFTs that celebrate the brave and the fierce. Are you worthy of a Gem anon?

How do I know that I am worthy of a Gem?

Every decision you ever made, no matter how small, got you to where you are right now. And while the end destination is easily remembered, shouldn't the journey that got you here be honored? Gems will give you a voice so you can finally share this story.

Connect your wallet and then gaze into The Magic Mirror as it gazes back at you. If a moment in your past catches its stare, The Magic Mirror will offer a precious and highly scarce Gem.

You might have been the first in a community to mint an NFT and continue to hold it with diamond-laden hands. Or you might have been one of the first degens to stake magic internet money in a turbo ponzi and survived to tell the tale.  Or you might have owned a specific Token during a special moment on the blockchain. Gem-worthy moments are as diverse as your rich past, so gaze into The Magic Mirror and see what awaits.

Do not be discouraged if The Magic Mirror does not identify a Gem worthy moment in your history. Your digital past is complex, and The Magic Mirror has yet to peel back all of its many many layers...

Your future is bright, and more opportunities await. Those who are perceptive may decipher The Magic Mirror’s tweets for clues (@magicmirror) or by joining our community on Discord to tune into the whispers of Gems and other secrets to be decoded.

While we are a community of Yat creators, a Yat account is NOT required to own a Gem.

I’m having issues with acquiring and/or minting my Gem. What should I do?

The allow list containing all eligible wallet addresses for each Gem is available here.

If you believe The Magic Mirror mistakenly overlooked a Gem-worthy moment in your past, please firstconfirm your wallet address is on the allow list and then send us a screenshot of your etherscan record and Gem results screen to support@y.at. Like all things made by eagle-pony hybrids, the Magic Mirror is imperfect, and there is no guarantee that it will always get things right. Did you really expect it to be omnipotent anon?

If you've successfully minted your Gem and can’t find the Gem in your wallet or OpenSea profile, email us with a link to your profile, your wallet address, and any supporting screenshots.

Is the eligibility for a Gem is based on a specific timeframe of ownership (i.e., “You owned the NFT within the first 30 days of minting”), do I still need to hold the NFT in that wallet address when viewing the Magic Mirror?
Close

No, in this example, you only need to have owned the NFT in the wallet you are connecting with within the first 30 days. If it’s moved to another wallet, that is ok, but the wallet the NFT was moved to would not be eligible.

The allow list containing all eligible wallet addresses for each Gem is available here.

I am using Ledger and having issues with the Magic Mirror, what should I do?

If you experience problems with an ETH address attached to a Ledger wallet, first confirm is included on the on the respective Gem's Allow List.

If your ETH address is on the allow list, please ensure you are using the latest version of MetaMask, have updated the firmware on the device,  are using the latest Ledger Live software and are using Google Chrome. Many issues were fixed between Chrome, Meta Mask, and Ledger in the last 6 months and this may resolve your issue. Additional information is available here.

I believe I’ve met the qualifications and know I’m eligible for the Gem release. When I peer into the Magic Mirror with my credentials, I receive a message to “try again next time”. What should I do?

Please ensure that you’ve connected the wallet that you acquired your respective NFT or performed the DeFi transaction with Metamask. This works best if it is a “hot” wallet and not a “cold” wallet such as Ledger. If you acquired your NFT with a “cold wallet”, please add the seed phrase to MetaMask.

What are Gems?
Close

Gems are NFTs (ERC-1155s) that are created to celebrate the defining moments for the bravest of souls who are participating in our Web 3 revolution. Each Gem is a celebration of a remarkable event in NFT or Defi history that propelled our space forward. Gems tell a story that would otherwise remain hidden or lost in an endless stream of on-chain transaction data.  Gems elevate these on-chain stories through the universal language of emoji.

Physical representations of stories can be destroyed and manipulated. Stories themselves may be altered as they are passed down from one generation to the next. Gems withstand the passing of time and will carry your story forward for an eternity.  In the form of an NFT, your on-chain achievements will transcend time.

And soon you will be able to share the Gems you’ve earned or acquired in the most beautiful way imaginable on The New Yat.

Help! I’m seeing my reflection everywhere! How do I know which Magic Mirror is real?
Close

What you see staring back at you may or may not be real. Always be mindful of impostors and illusionists that wish to exploit your enthusiasm for their own gains. They offer only smoke and mirrors.

The Magic Mirror will only seek connection to your Metamask wallet from its home at http://magicmirror.y.at/. Any requests outside of The Magic Mirror’s dominion are not true to form and should be avoided.

Any Gem collections on OpenSea not recorded in The Magic Mirror’s Compendium of Gems are either malicious deceptions or unrelated to The Magic Mirror. Please stay safe frens. Scammers and wannabes are out in full force.

Help! I was eligible but my Gem minting transaction has reversed or failed. What should I do?
Close

Please ensure that you have enough funds set aside for gas fees and that you do not change the recommended gas amount. If you do not have enough funds or you use a gas amount that’s too low, the transaction will be rejected after 3 minutes.

Due to the limited 3-minute transaction window, we recommend not adjusting the suggested Gas fee when minting. If you adjust the Gas fees lower you will most likely see your transaction to fail.
